Spread Firefox Affiliates Program version 2.0
I’m excited to announce that we’ve launched a number of improvements to the Spread Firefox Affiliates program. Some of the improvements are user-facing and some of them are back-end improvements which, while not immediately obvious, will be of great benefit to the program. You can find the initial details for this improvement plan here.
Not too long ago, we conducted a survey to our Affiliates. One of the big (if unsurprising) things we learned was that affiliates wanted more information about the program — how they can get started, how the points system works, etc. You’ll notice that now there is much more information about the program. Some of the other things we improved and added include:
- Better organization of buttons and banners. Sifting through the buttons is much easier with the ability to sort by category.
- A new selection of International buttons, including German, Spanish, French, Polish, and Italian. Plus, we’ve replaced outdated buttons and added some new Firefox 3 buttons.
- You can now create your own buttons using the Firefox logos and layered files provided on the Create Buttons page.
- We’ve made some content changes that make the Affiliates program easier to access and navigate — you’ll see that the program now has its own tab on the Spread Firefox homepage, and we’ve added a nav bar on the affiliate pages for better navigation.
- Affiliate points will now count downloads of Firefox — one point equals one download. In the past only button clicks to the Firefox website were counted in Affiliate totals. In order to keep point histories for active Affiliates, we’ve applied a conversion factor to all past affiliate points earned based on how many clicks we estimate turn into a download. Currently we estimate that more than 1 in 5 clicks (22%) end up as a Firefox download! Existing Affiliates won’t see any change in their overall ranking relative to others — so if you see a sharp reduction, know that your ranking will be the same relative to all existing affiliates
- A new incentive system, which will give the top 250 performing Affiliates each quarter the chance (via random drawing) to be featured on the Affiliates homepage. Plus, each quarterly winner will receive a Top Fox Affiliate t-shirt.

We’re planning even more improvements soon, but in the meantime, we’d love your feedback on this program. Also, consider joining and participating in the Affiliates discussion group — almost 600 affiliates have joined so far.
Special thanks to Juliana Chea, who did a lot of great work this summer planning these improvements, and Alex Buchanan, who has put in a lot of time on the web development side.
